Amendments to the Health Information Protection Act

The Health Information Protection Amendment Act, 2015 was proclaimed on June 1, 2016.   The amendments strengthen and clarify the requirements of trustees, Information Management Service Providers and their employees in protecting personal health information.

They also provide the mechanism through which swift action can be taken to secure personal health information, such as patient files, if found abandoned.

The following materials contain detailed information outlining the amendments:

These materials are also available on the SPA website, in the Member's Area, under the Announcements section. (http://saskphysio.org/members-area/general-section/announcements)

Motions From The Floor

NEW for AGM 2016:  Membership Motions from the Floor Pre-submission Process

In order to provide an opportunity for general membership input into SCPT processes, Council has implemented a new process for Membership Motions from the Floor for this year’s AGM. Pre-submission will allow time for Council to consider any motions brought forward and ask for further information and feedback as required. It will also allow for pre-circulation of the motion and other information along with the AGM agenda and annual report to SCPT members.

Motions from the Floor will be accepted from a current SCPT member who must follow a pre-submission process with a deadline of March 1st, 2016.  Please refer to the Motions from the Floor Process Document below, as well as the IFD for submission document that must be completed for all submissions.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact president@scpt.org

Physiotherapy Alberta has been involved in two projects and is sharing the following information:

Blood and Body Fluid Exposure:  This started as a project to inform PTs about what to do in the event of an exposure.  It became a bigger project with other Colleges and government.  http://bbfeab.ca/

Workplace Abuse:   This was a project with 3 partners to raise awareness about co-worker abuse.  The PT findings were consistent with other work done in this area and confirm that a large number of health care providers experience or witness abuse in the workplace.  The output are resources to help identify and manage abuse. http://thingsneedtochange.ca
