Frequently Asked Questions

I continually work on maintaining my Physical Therapy competency attending courses and reviewing best practice guidelines. Why do I have to complete the Continuing Competency Program?

  • As your regulatory body, the SCPT must demonstrate to the Government and the Public, that there is a formal process in place proving the member’s commitment to continuing competency. To meet the requirements for yearly licensure, you will need to fulfill the Continuing Competency Program.

I understand there is a requirement to complete 2 Competency Domains before the renewal and one is a Mandatory Competency Domain chosen by the SCPT. What is the Mandatory Competency Domain for the renewal year 2024?

  • The Mandatory Competency Domain is Leadership.

When do the required documents need to be uploaded by?

  • The required documents need to be uploaded prior to completing your annual license renewal each year.

After I complete my submissions, how can I view or edit my competency documents?

  • Log into your personal Member Portal and scroll to the Continuing Competency information. At the bottom of the information, you will see a link to “View/Replace Competency Record”. Click on this link to view or delete/replace your submissions.

I completed an approved task 1 ½ years before the submission date and would like to use it for one of my Continuing Competency Program requirements. Is this acceptable?

  • Yes, complete and upload the necessary document and use this as one of your submissions. Submissions may be made for any Task that has occurred within the past 2 licensing years prior to the renewal date deadline.

If the task I would like to use for my submission is not included on the Master Task List of Tasks, do I need approval to use it?

  • You do not need approval to use a task so long as it is a physiotherapy related task, is relevant and of benefit to your practice environment and is relatable to the essential competencies of the domain.

I am returning from maternity leave and will be changing my status from non-practicing to full-practicing in August.  Will I be required to complete the CCP at that time?

  • No, you will not be required to complete the CCP in August.  You are only required to complete the CCP at the time of annual renewal when you are registering as full-practicing licence or academic licence.

The University of Saskatchewan has provided me with a letter confirming my preceptorship of an MPT student. Am I required to upload this letter as part of the CCP?

  • You are no longer required to upload a proof of task document as part of the CCP requirements.  If you are chosen for audit, you may be required to provide proof of your task completion so save the letter in a convenient location on your computer, so you are able to provide it to the auditors if requested.

Who can I contact if I have further questions regarding the Continuing Competency Program?
